DNA Motoring Fuel Cell
Our DNA Motoring fuel cell brings race-grade fuel storage to your performance build without the complexity of OEM tank retrofitting. Engineered with aircraft-grade aluminum construction and internal baffling, this fuel cell prevents fuel starvation during aggressive driving, hard cornering, and steep off-road angles.
Whether you’re building a drift car, trophy truck, or track-focused street machine, our fuel cell offers the capacity and safety features serious drivers demand. Each unit ships with a pre-installed foam baffle system, AN fittings for clean fuel line routing, and a flush-mount or external pump option to match your chassis setup.
Fuel cell construction & capacity specs

Aluminum construction & internal baffle design
Each DNA Motoring fuel cell starts with 0.060-inch aircraft-grade aluminum sheet, precision-formed and TIG-welded to create a leak-proof pressure vessel. The welding process creates full-penetration seams that exceed OEM fuel tank durability standards, with no spot welds or crimped joints that could fail under vibration or impact.
Inside, our pre-installed foam baffle insert fills the entire cavity, breaking up fuel movement into thousands of small pockets. This prevents the sloshing and air intake that causes fuel starvation when your dna motoring fuel cell experiences lateral G-forces or steep inclines. The open-cell foam allows unrestricted fuel flow to the pickup while maintaining consistent pressure at the pump inlet, even when the tank reads below quarter-full.

Fuel capacity sizing & installation clearance
We offer DNA Motoring fuel cells in five capacity tiers to match your build’s space constraints and range requirements. The 8-gallon compact cell measures 16″ × 12″ × 9″ and fits behind the rear seat of most two-door coupes, making it ideal for drift cars and autocross builds where weight distribution matters. Mid-range 12 and 15-gallon cells suit street/track hybrids that need extended session time without frequent pit stops.
Our 18 and 20-gallon cells target off-road trucks and endurance racing applications, where refueling infrastructure is limited. These larger cells require trunk or bed mounting with reinforced floor plating, and we recommend verifying rear axle clearance before ordering. All cells maintain a low-profile height to preserve ground clearance on lowered vehicles.
AN fitting ports & fuel line routing
Our fuel cells arrive pre-tapped with industry-standard AN bung fittings, eliminating the need for custom welding or drilling. The primary feed port accepts -8 AN fittings for high-flow fuel pumps, while the return port uses -6 AN to match most aftermarket fuel pressure regulators. A dedicated vent bung on the top plate allows safe vapor evacuation without introducing debris into the fuel stream.
For carbureted builds, the cell includes a float-style sender bung compatible with common aftermarket fuel level gauges. EFI applications benefit from the pre-drilled pump hanger flange, which accepts Walbro, Aeromotive, and Holley in-tank pump modules with minimal modification. All bungs feature O-ring seals and aluminum crush washers to prevent leaks at the fitting interface.

DNA Motoring Fuel Cell Questions
Our aluminum fuel cells are compatible with pump gasoline, racing fuels, E85 ethanol blends, methanol, and diesel. The aluminum construction and foam baffle material resist corrosion from ethanol content up to E100.
Avoid using nitromethane or other nitro-based fuels, as they require specialized containment materials not present in aluminum cells. If you’re running oxygenated race fuels with MTBE additives, we recommend annual foam inspection to check for degradation.
Start by measuring your available mounting space—trunk, bed, or behind-seat area—and compare against our dimensional specs for each capacity tier. For street-driven vehicles, match your OEM tank capacity to maintain similar range between fill-ups.
Track-focused builds should calculate fuel consumption rate (gallons per hour at race pace) and multiply by your longest session length plus a 25% safety margin. Off-road and endurance applications benefit from maximum capacity within your weight distribution limits, typically 15-20 gallons for most builds.
Experienced builders with welding and fuel system knowledge can complete the installation using our included mounting hardware and instructions. You’ll need to fabricate or purchase a mounting platform, route fuel and vent lines, and properly secure the cell according to motorsport safety guidelines.
If you’re unfamiliar with AN fittings, fuel pump wiring, or chassis mounting best practices, we strongly recommend professional installation by a performance shop familiar with fuel cell systems. Improper installation creates fire risk and potential fuel starvation issues that defeat the cell’s purpose.
The polyurethane foam baffle typically lasts 5-7 years under normal gasoline use before compression and fuel exposure degrade its structure. E85 and methanol accelerate degradation to 3-5 years due to their solvent properties.
Inspect the foam annually by removing the top plate and checking for crumbling, excessive compression, or discoloration. If the foam no longer springs back when compressed or shows visible breakdown, order a replacement insert. Continued use with degraded foam eliminates the fuel starvation protection your DNA Motoring fuel cell provides.
Most naturally aspirated and mild forced induction builds use -6 AN for both feed and return lines, which supports up to 450 horsepower with a properly sized pump. High-horsepower applications (500+ hp) should upgrade to -8 AN feed lines to reduce restriction and maintain pressure at high flow rates.
Our fuel cells include -8 AN feed bungs and -6 AN return bungs as standard. If your system requires -10 AN or larger, the bungs can be drilled and re-tapped by a qualified fabricator, though this typically exceeds the flow requirements of most street and track builds.
Fuel cell legality varies by state and local emissions regulations. Many jurisdictions prohibit non-OEM fuel storage systems on street-registered vehicles due to safety and evaporative emissions standards, particularly California and states following CARB guidelines.
Our fuel cells are designed primarily for racing, off-road, and track-only applications where OEM tank replacement is permitted. Before installing a fuel cell on a street-driven vehicle, verify your local laws and be prepared for potential registration or inspection issues. Some states allow fuel cells on tube-frame or custom builds that never had factory fuel systems.
Mount your DNA Motoring fuel cell with the top plate facing up and the sump/pickup at the lowest point. The foam baffle and internal plumbing are designed for this orientation, and inverting or tilting the cell compromises fuel pickup efficiency.
If your chassis requires angled mounting due to floor clearance or structural limitations, keep the tilt within 15 degrees from level and position the pickup end toward the rear of the vehicle. This ensures fuel pools near the pickup during acceleration rather than away from it, maintaining consistent delivery even with the mounting angle.
