DNA Motoring Drills
Our Heavy-Duty Cordless Drill Kit brings professional-grade power to your automotive workshop. Engineered specifically for mechanics and DIY enthusiasts, this drill handles everything from bolt removal to precision bodywork with a 20V brushless motor that delivers 500 in-lbs of torque.
The ergonomic grip reduces hand fatigue during extended repair sessions, while the variable speed trigger gives you complete control from delicate panel work to aggressive drilling through steel frames. Every kit includes two lithium-ion batteries, a rapid charger, and a rugged carrying case that fits perfectly in tool storage systems.
Performance specs at a glance

Battery performance and charging
The DNA Motoring drills system runs on advanced lithium-ion battery technology that maintains consistent power output even as the charge depletes. Each 2.0Ah battery delivers approximately 45 minutes of continuous drilling through automotive-grade steel, or up to 3 hours of intermittent use during typical repair work.
Our rapid charger brings a fully depleted battery back to 100% in just 60 minutes, and the smart charging system prevents overheating that degrades battery life over time. The LED indicator shows charge status at a glance—green for ready, amber for charging, and red for fault detection.

Chuck capacity and bit compatibility
The 1/2-inch keyless chuck accepts any standard twist drill bit, hole saw, or driver bit with shanks up to 1/2 inch diameter. This capacity handles the full range of automotive applications from 1/16-inch pilot holes in aluminum trim to 1/2-inch holes through steel subframes.
The ratcheting chuck design locks bits securely with hand-tightening only—no separate chuck key required. This single-sleeve design lets you change bits in under 5 seconds, even while wearing work gloves. The hardened steel jaws grip round, hex, and brad-point shanks without slipping under high torque loads.
Clutch settings for different materials
Twenty-one numbered clutch settings let you match torque output to fastener size and material hardness. Settings 1-8 work for small screws in plastic trim panels and delicate electronics housings. Mid-range settings 9-16 handle standard sheet metal screws and body panel fasteners without stripping threads.
Settings 17-21 deliver maximum torque for self-tapping screws in steel and large lag bolts in frame-mounted components. The dedicated drill mode bypasses the clutch entirely for continuous drilling through metal, while hammer mode adds percussive action for concrete anchor installation in shop floors.

DNA Motoring Drills: Common Questions
DNA Motoring drills use a proprietary 20V battery design that works exclusively with DNA Motoring power tools. The batteries are not cross-compatible with other brands’ 20V systems.
However, all DNA Motoring 20V batteries work interchangeably across our complete cordless tool lineup including impact wrenches, grinders, work lights, and inspection cameras. This lets you build a unified workshop system with one battery platform.
The Heavy-Duty Cordless Drill can drill through automotive-grade steel up to 1/2 inch thick using standard high-speed steel twist bits. For holes larger than 3/8 inch diameter, we recommend using a stepped bit or pilot hole technique to reduce motor strain.
The 500 in-lbs torque rating handles 1/2-inch hole saws through sheet metal and body panels without bogging down. For thicker frame rails or structural steel beyond 1/2 inch, you may need to step up to a corded drill or use cobalt bits with cutting fluid.
Start with lower clutch settings (1-8) for small screws in plastic, fiberglass, or soft materials. These settings prevent overtightening and stripped threads in delicate trim panels and interior components.
Mid-range settings (9-16) work for standard sheet metal screws, body panel fasteners, and general automotive hardware. High settings (17-21) handle self-tapping screws in steel and large structural bolts. Switch to drill mode (beyond setting 21) when you need continuous rotation without clutch engagement for drilling operations.
The compact drill body measures just 7.5 inches from chuck to battery base, allowing access to most engine bay spaces and suspension mounting points. The head width is 3 inches at the widest point around the chuck.
The built-in LED work light illuminates your drilling surface in dark undercarriage areas and deep engine compartments. For extremely tight spaces under 6 inches of clearance, consider using a right-angle drill attachment or our DNA Motoring compact impact driver as an alternative.
DNA Motoring drills include a 3-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. The lithium-ion batteries carry a separate 2-year warranty from the date of purchase.
Warranty coverage includes free replacement of defective components and repair labor. Normal wear items like chuck jaws and motor brushes (on brushed models) are not covered. Register your drill within 30 days of purchase to activate the full warranty protection and receive product updates.
Battery runtime depends on drilling intensity and material hardness. Under continuous drilling through automotive steel with a 1/4-inch bit, expect approximately 45-50 minutes per 2.0Ah battery charge.
Intermittent use during typical repair work—drilling a few holes then driving screws with breaks between tasks—extends runtime to 2.5-3 hours per battery. Drilling softer materials like aluminum, plastic, or wood significantly increases runtime. The included rapid charger brings a depleted battery back to full charge in 60 minutes.
DNA Motoring drills are designed for drilling and driving applications, not bolt removal. The 500 in-lbs torque rating is sufficient for driving large lag bolts and self-tapping screws, but removing seized or rusted bolts requires an impact tool.
For bolt removal work, we recommend pairing this drill with our DNA Motoring 20V Impact Wrench, which delivers 300 ft-lbs (3,600 in-lbs) of breakaway torque specifically engineered for stubborn fasteners. The impact wrench uses the same 20V battery platform as the drill for convenience.
